Cuba Plans to Lower Child Mortality Rate in 2017

Image result for infantsHavana, April 6 (Prensa Latina) Cuba”s Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) reported today to the press its commitment to cut the infant mortality rate down to under four per thousand live births this year.

 

Attaining this rate is a great challenge for our nation, if it is compared with high-developed nations´ reality, the Head of MINSAP´s Mother and Child Department, Roberto Alvarez.

In order to have a clear sense of this phenomenon, regarding the number of first-year-of-life deaths, this indicator is at 4.4 percent so far this year, thanks to the hard work of different provinces such as Pinar del Rio, Sancti Spiritus, Camaguey, Santiago de Cuba, Cienfuegos and Mayabeque.

These results, he added, was -among other causes due to the community participation, family responsibility, intersectorality, transformations of the Cuban health system, and to a tremendous display of effort and dedication.
