Cuba offers solidarity to fight Covid-19, Haitian activist says

Port-au-Prince, Apr 10 (Prensa Latina) Cuba offers solidarity to fight Covid-19 worldwide, despite the strong blockade imposed by the United States, which limits its development, Haitian political activist Frank Saint Jean said.

Saint Jean, who is a member of progressive movements in Haiti, thanked the Cuban Government for its efforts in fighting the pandemic, which has already taken a toll of more than 95,000 lives and has infected nearly two million people in the world.

We Haitians have lived Cuba’s dignified solidarity like the other peoples in the world. Thanks to the presence of its professionals we could deal with natural disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, cholera, among others, said Saint Jean, who graduated in Cuba.

‘Therefore, we join the efforts made by the other peoples in the world to ask President Donald Trump and his government to end the blockade against Cuba,’ he stressed.

He added that Washington’s hostile policy affects Cuba’s development and limits the mobilization of resources and equipment to boost the national industry.

‘Because today against this pandemic we have seen how Cuba has offered that solidarity,’ he noted in reference to 14 specialized medical brigades that are currently fighting Covid-19 in Venezuela, Nicaragua, Suriname, Belize, Jamaica, Grenada, Italy, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, Andorra, Barbados and Haiti.
