Havana, Dec 18 (Prensa Latina) Cuba on friday presented to the accredited nations in the country and to the United Nations system the progress made by domestic Covid-19 vaccines.
Representatives of the Business Group of Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries (BioCubaFarma), the Finlay Institute for Vaccines (IFV) and the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology participated in the meeting.
At the opening of the meeting, the Resident Coordinator of the UN system in Cuba, Consuelo Vidal, recalled that one of the most important areas of this body worldwide is to support the recovery of all countries after fighting Covid-19, in addition to maintaining the other health programs established before the beginning of the disease.
‘Cuba has proven how scientific and technical breakthroughs -combined with universal access to health- are fundamental to challenge contexts such as the one generated by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and also to improve people’s situation in these sorts of events,’ she stressed.
In this regard, she said, supporting the production of vaccine candidates has a strategic relevance. Therefore, we reiterate our support for Cuba.
On the other hand, the General Director of Collaboration of Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Trade, Magalys Estrada, stressed the meeting will allow knowing the potential of Cuban biotechnology industry, particularly the four candidates developed.
