Cuba: International Fishing Tournament Called

Ciego de Avila, Cuba, Jul 12 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Cayo Guillermo”s Marlin Marina and Travel Agency ECOTUR are calling for professional and amateur fishermen worldwide to take part in the 7th edition of the International ”Jardines del Rey” fishing tournament, this time nicknamed ”Big Game Trolling”.

The Big Game Trolling will be from November 7th to 12th this year in the deep waters of Cayo Guillermo, north of the central province of Ciego de Avila, Cuba, 430 kilometres east of Havana.

Luis Baez, the commercial specialist for ECOTUR in the region, told Prensa Latina that women and men will be able to participate, whether they are associated to clubs or federations or not.

“Even if they are people who want to know more about the sea, or like water sports, they can apply to participate,” he said.

The fishing area will cover three miles north-northeast between Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo and the tournament will be ruled by the regulations of the International Game Fishing Association under the practice of marking and releasing the catches. The first three places will be rewarded.

Baez added that they will be using specialized crews with more than 15 years of experience, of on board of fishing yachts between 33 and 52 feet.

Cayo Guillermo is 13 square kilometers. It is one of the most important islets and is the place where US writer and novelist Ernest Hemingway made his best fishing journeys, during his stay in Cuba.
