Managua, Nov 15 (Prensa Latina) The destruction of democracy in Bolivia and the return of that country to the impoverishing neoliberal model is an affront to Our America, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Ana Teresita Gonzalez said here on Thursday.
It is also a very serious threat to peace and stability in the region, Gonzalez noted at the emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP).
‘The recent developments in Bolivia demonstrate that imperialism, the national oligarchies and the OAS (Organization of American States) do not tolerate independent and sovereign governments in the region, least of all if they are committed to the majorities who were always excluded,’ she stressed.
‘Behind the coup in Bolivia, every rupture of constitutional order, every despotic government and all tyrannies is, invariably, the hand of the Government of the United States, which is determined to establish the rule of the Monroe Doctrine over our peoples at any price,’ she added.
Cuba defended Evo Morales, his cultural revolution, democracy and the Bolivian people.
International law and the postulates of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace must be enforced, Gonzalez stated.
We must raise our voice and oppose all attempts at legitimizing what happened, with our broadest unity and coordination at regional and multilateral forums, she concluded.
