Cuba for Promoting Collaboration with Russia in Health

Moscow, Sep 21 (Prensa Latina) Cuba spoke here to strengthen collaboration with Russia in the field of health and offered its modest experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology areas to make it available to this country.

We must make further progress, especially in cooperation in the health sector, said Vice President of the Cuban Council of Ministers, Ricardo Cabrisas, when he appeared at the plenary session of the 17th session of the Russian-Cuban Intergovernment Joint Commission.

In that regard, he recalled what President Vladimir Putin said about that area in his annual message to the Federal Assembly, last March, when explaining projects in the social sphere.

On the other hand, it is essential to work together to achieve an increase in trade in both directions, especially in the export of goods and services from Cuba, said the Caribbean leader.

We also seek a greater presence of Russian capital in Cuba, said the official, who co-chairs the intergovernmental joint commission for his country.

Cabrisas highlighted the development of cooperation with Russia in several areas, among which stands out the energy and fuel development program that means energy assurance for Cuba.

To this is added the project to rehabilitate and modernize railway infrastructure and the construction of four blocks of 200 megawatts each in the Máximo Gómez and East Havana thermo plants.

The plan also provides for the modernization of the Antillana de Acero steel plant and the creation of a mixed company to produce composite construction materials in the special development area of ??Mariel, Cabrisas said.

There is a high level of political dialogue, an important coincidence between Russia and Cuba on the issues of the international agenda and the sustained progress in recent years of economic-trade ties.

The visits both-way of highest level officials between Havana and Moscow in 2018 and the present year, and the next visit to Cuba by Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev, on October 3 and 4, demonstrate the importance for both of the high-level political dialogue, he explained.

Cabrisas also highlighted the importance of the first Exhibition of Cuba in Russia, organized by the Chamber of Commerce of the island, in which Cuban companies showed their products and services to the Russian market, as well as the celebration of the Tenth Russia-Cuba Business Committee .

He also referred to a new strategy for the development of bilateral cooperation, which should be analyzed in the first quarter of 2020, at a meeting of the co-chairs of the Joint Intergovernment Commission.
