Cuba Exhibits Constructive Solutions to Prevent Corrosion

Havana, Apr 5 (Prensa Latina) An innovative solution to replace steel bars in construction is the attractive proposal of the Yaroslavl Plant of Composite Materials in FECONS 2018, a technique with wide potential to prevent corrosion.

The 12th Construction Fair in Cuba, FECONS 2018, reaches today its last day with a Russian exhibition, consisting of bars, meshes and curved elements of polymers reinforced with fiberglass to strengthen reinforced concrete, an alternative to the use of steel in constructions, Alejandro Hernandez, technical consultant of the entity, told Prensa Latina.

The use of this technology has many advantages: it is anticorrosive, saves on repair and restoration; being lighter, it humanizes workers’ work; it has competitive prices compared to the global value of steel, and also does not pollute the environment, Hernandez said.

The relationship with Cuba began three years ago, he said and expanded that they supplied the bars used for the reconstruction of the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant, which was strongly affected by the onslaught of Hurricane Irma in September.

Those materials will be used in the pump houses and in the retaining wall in order to provide greater durability to the structures.

Another project involves the supply of all the technology to the Ignacio Agramonte plant in Camagüey province, to produce these new materials, and in addition, a second industry is planned to be set up in the Mariel Special Development Zone.

For the Russian company, Cuba was the base to develop the product in Latin America, since it was the showcase to reach countries such as Mexico, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.

FECONS 2018 concludes today many contacts between entrepreneurs and exhibitors in the most important commercial showcase of constructions in Cuba.
