Havana, Sep 7 (Prensa Latina) Cuba has exceeded 7,000 diagnostic tests to detect Covid-19 in a day, in which 43 cases with the disease were reported on Monday.
Dr. Francisco Duran, director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health, highlighted the capacity of Cuba’s scientific laboratories that reported 7,164 PCR tests in real-time to detect SARS-CoV-2. The country accumulates 439,204 diagnostic tests since March.
‘We have been working for months to reach that daily figure of tests, the conditions were created and we have achieved it,’ the specialist said.
Upon detailing the epidemiological situation, Duran informed that a 54-year-old man, who had personal pathological diseases, died of Covid-19. With this case, Cuba totals 102 deaths from the novel coronavirus.
Thus, the lethality rate in the country is 2.34%, he said.
With 43 cases on Sunday, Cuba reports 4,352 people with the virus in this day, 606 of them remain active, the expert said.
Of the new cases, 42 are Cubans and one is a foreigner, 32 of them were contacts of patients already infected, and the source of infection has not been confirmed in 10 cases, the doctor stated.
Duran reiterated the importance of complying with health measures, as 22 of the new cases reported on Sunday were asymptomatic. Cuba totals 2,549 patients, representing 58.5%.
He also called for caring children, as 10 patients aged under 20 tested positive on Sunday, nine of them are in pediatric ages.
With these figures, the country accumulates 467 children with SARS-CoV-2, some 389 of them are already recovered. About 52 patients recovered from the disease, totaling 3,642 recoveries, 83.7% of those infected with Covid-19 in Cuba since March 11.
To date, about 1,469 patients remain in hospitals with Covid-19 for clinical-epidemiological surveillance: 60 are under surveillance measures, 803 are suspects and 606 are active cases.
Duran indicated that some 594 patients are clinically stable, two others are in a critical condition and 10 are seriously ill.
Some 185 countries have been reported with coronavirus until September 6, with 26,921,111 cases and 881,831 deaths.
About 52.56% of all Covid-19 cases globally were reported in the Americas region, with 14,150,397 infections and 489,270 deaths.
