In partnership with Cuba’s Antonio Nuñez Jiménez Foundation for Humanity and Nature, and in collaboration with numerous Cuban institutions, including The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) and Mundo Latino, Ocean Doctor is launching Cuba’s first environmental film festival October 24-31, 2016.
The Environmental Film Festival in Cuba will include a central event in Havana and a traveling component that visits remote communities throughout the country. Cuban filmmakers will be encouraged to participate in submitting films that address Cuban environmental and sustainable development issues.
The festival will serve as a dialogue to discuss local environmental and sustainable development issues, connect Cuban citizens to their country’s remarkably healthy ecosystems, and explore sustainable alternatives for the future. It is our goal to inspire and motivate Cubans to protect their natural resources and empower them with information and resources to help them make informed decisions about environmental issues and sustainable socioeonomic development of their country. An additional goal of the festival is to motivate the Cuban filmmakers to highlight local environmental issues, featuring the beauty and state of natural resources in Cuba as well as government policies for protection and sustainable growth.
