Geneva, Feb 26 (Prensa Latina) Cuba’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Juan Antonio Quintanilla denounced on Friday at the Human Rights Council the unilateral coercive measures and actions of destabilization and interference against developing countries.
We condemn those aggressions, which constitute a serious violation of the UN Charter and international law and are committed under the excuse of human rights, with a manipulated and hypocritical narrative, the diplomat warned on speaking at the continuation of the 46th session of the Council, which takes place here from February 22 to March 23.
In a forum dedicated to updating the management of High Commissioner Michelle Bachelet, the ambassador reiterated Cuba’s rejection of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade for six decades, reinforced with over 230 measures by the former President Donald Trump.
‘The blockade was tightened to unprecedented levels amid the Covid-19 pandemic, thus reinforcing its genocidal nature, and the fact that it constitutes the main obstacle to the economic and social development of my country, in addition to representing a flagrant violation of International Law and the UN Charter,’ Quintanilla noted.
The diplomat also reiterated the absolute and steadfast rejection of appointing Cuba as a country sponsoring terrorism, a measure adopted by the Trump administration in January, just days before he left the White House.
