Beijing, May 23 ( Prensa Latina ) Cuba and China have reaffirmed their commitment to accelerate the implementation of the existing memorandum of cooperation in the health sector, as a higher stage of those links, a diplomatic source confirmed Thursday.
According to a statement from the Cuban embassy in Beijing, that view was taken during a meeting between the Deputy Minister of Health, Marcia Cobas, and Li Bin, Deputy Head of the Chinese National Health Commission.
Cobas stressed that the medical collaboration between the two countries was fostered by the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and is kept as a key principle in relations.
She also referred to the cooperation that Cuba offers in the ophthalmological hospital in Anhui Province and to the wide possibilities of combining the benefits with the introduction of advanced medicines in the biotechnology in Cuba, which enjoy worldwide prestige.
Meanwhile, Li appreciated the extensive information provided by Cobas and emphasized the support of China’s National Health Commission to cooperate in all possible areas on the base of the historical relationship between the two peoples and the international recognition of the Cuban State’ progress in this sector.
She called for closer exchanges in the framework of the Belt and Road initiative launched in 2013.
She also explained the Government’s efforts to increase medical assistance to the population and health indicators throughout the country through the extension of national insurance.
The meeting between the two Vice Ministers was the culmination of Cobas’ visit in Beijing and served to resume his tour of several Chinese provinces, where she witnessed the wide possibilities of cooperation in the medical services field and in sending patients to Cuba
