Havana.- The Cuban mission championed on Thursday in Paris, at the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO), a world free of nuclear weapons, while recalling the serious danger they represent for world peace and the survival of humanity itself, Prensa Latina reported.
In a communique circulated on the occasion of the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons marked on Monday, the permanent delegation highlighted the importance of prioritizing the issue in the current world situation, characterized by serious threats to international peace and safety.
The Cuban representation pointed out that the issue of nuclear disarmament has special significance for UNESCO.
Likewise, it highlighted the importance of the declaration of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, which took place at the 2nd Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States held in Havana in 2014. (acn)
