Cuba: central region's health centers ready to face COVID-19

Santa Clara, Mar 12 (Prensa Latina) The Comandante Manuel Fajardo Military Hospital and the Molecular Microbiology Laboratory, based in this central province, has been fitted out to assist or detect people with COVID-19´s symptoms in Santa Clara.

The Cuban government designated these two centers to detect, diagnose and cure COVID-19-infested individuals living in the provinces of Camagüey, Ciego de Avila, Sancti Spiritus, Cienfuegos and Villa Clara.

As to Comandante Manuel Fajardo Military Hospital, based in this city, the capital of Villa Clara, its health services are ready, Dr. Alexander Cruz, deputy director of medical assistance, informed today.

As it was reported, in the city of Trinidad, belonging to the province of Sancti Spiritus, three Italian-born people were detected on March 11 -who eventually tested positive for COVID-19, and were admitted at Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK), in Havana.

Dr. Alexander Cruz said that the Military Hospital, which received the three COVID-19 suspected cases in the country´s central region, was also prepared to assist pregnant women and children who require its health service.

As for the Molecular Microbiology Laboratory, counting on all required technical conditions and highly-skilled personnel, it is also ready to detect COVID-19 cases in the provinces of the central region.

This laboratory has an advanced technology that allows to get in 24 hours an accurate diagnosis of several viruses or bacteria.

According to specialists, the laboratory trials are collected by competent personnel in the selected hospitals in each province, and are then taken to the lab where there is a strict security protocol.
