Cuba Braces for Celebrating 57th Anniversary of the Revolution

Havana, Dec 31 (Prensa Latina) Cubans today complete preparations of different activities to mark the 57th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution, and celebrate the new year, 2016.

Every year, a traditional military ceremony is held at 12:00am with a 21-gun salute from San Carlos de la Cabaña fortress, at the entrance of the Havana’s bay.

Also, on the ocassion of the anniversary, the National Ballet of Cuba (NBC) will perform at Havana Gran Theater Alicia Alonso on January 1, and 3, opening its doors on that date after its restoration.

The gala will include the second act of The Swan Lake, a ballet with choreography of prima ballerina Alicia Alonso on the original of Lev Ivanov music of Piotr Ilich Chaikovski. Under the title Classic Triptych, the NBC program also includes the first act of Giselle, inspired in a popular Germanic legend written by poet and essayist Heinrich Heine, and the third act of Coppelia.

For Cubans, January 1, 1959 represented the end of Fulgencio Batista dictatorship and the beginning of a stage of changes in favor of the majority of the population.

Over half a century later, despite the US blockade, the Caribbean country has been developing an updated process of the economic and social model to guarantee the continuity and strengthening of the socialist system adopted in the interests of the national development.

The willingness to continue that direction was ratified by President Raul Castro in his speech at the Parliament’s plenary session last December 29, calling to increase productivity, efficiency, control, and saving of the nation’s resources.

Raul said that despite the Gross Domestic Product will grow 2 percent, the social achievements of the revolution will continue in the next year.
