Cuba Begins Industrial Production of New Vaccine

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 6 (acn) The Heber-NASVAC vaccine to treat Hepatitis C stands out among the new productions of the National Center for Bio-formulas (BIOCEN) located in Bejucal, Mayabeque province.

Julio Cesar Portuondo, director of the scientific center, said that the first batches of the drug are being bottled for trial to get a license and certification of good practice, since patients will receive the drug in liquid applications through the nasal cavity, the Cubasi Web site reported on Thursday.

The executive of BIOCEN argued that the product is manufactured in the facilities of the center but that it is the result of research works of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

The workers of Bio-formulas in Mayabeque carry out the process of formulation and filling of the vaccine, which is made industrially for the first time in the country, pointed out Portuondo.
