Since the first Cohiba Atmosphere, an exclusive concept of a smoking lounge created by the Habanos S.A. company, opened its doors to the public in 2007 in Hong Kong, demanding connoisseurs of Cuban cigars continue to visit.
There are currently 11 locales around the world, intent upon offering the best selection of cigars and outstanding service.
Dayli Torres, development director for Habanos S.A., told Granma International that establishments are up and running in Hongkou, Shanghai, and Beijing in China; Tokyo, Japan; Prague in the Czech Republic; Cancun, Mexico; Salmiya, Kuwait; Bangkok, Thailand; Antwerp, Belgium; and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The first Cohiba Atmosphere in Cuba opened recently in the commercial gallery of the Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski, the first five star plus hotel on the island, operated under the prestigious Kempinski trademark.
The new cigar lounge is located in the heart of Old Havana, a World Heritage Site, on Neptuno Street, between Zulueta and Monserrate, next to Havana’s legendary Central Park, a perfect spot, with great architectural value and always busy. The emblematic building has an important place in Cuba’s commercial history.
Spaces within the lounge are designed around Cohiba’s four product lines of cigars: Clásica, 1492, Maduro 5, and Behike, which are represented with their own colors and graphics. Both experienced cigar-lovers and those just initiating their experiences in the world of premium cigars can enjoy a variety of Habanos’ vitolas
in an inviting atmosphere.
This Cohiba Atmosphere has a large walk-in humidor, with a great variety of brands and sizes of hand-rolled cigars on hand, stored in perfect conditions of temperature and humidity. Alongside the humidor is a bar offering spirits from around the world and an extensive menu of Cuban and international cocktails.
The entire first floor is full of comfortable armchairs that allow smokers to thoroughly enjoy their cigars. Located on the upper floor are 40 lockers where regular clients can store their cigars, plus an area available by reservation for those seeking more privacy, and a small business meeting room.
The Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski’s Cohiba Atmosphere also offers an ample, exclusive inventory of articles for smokers, as well as other Habanos S.A. products to complement their Cohiba experience.
Projected this year, are the openings of Cohiba Atmosphere lounges in Sofia, Bulgaria, and Tirana, Albania.
COHIBA: THE WORLD’S MOST FAMOUS CIGAR
Cohiba is the most highly prized brand in the world of cigars. Created in 1966, these cigars were for many years only available as gifts to government dignitaries, Cuban or visiting from abroad. They have always been rolled in the Laguito factory, in Havana.
Since 1982, when they were presented in several countries, Cuba’s emblematic Cohibas have been available, in limited quantities, for the enjoyment of the world’s most discriminating smokers.
The name Cohiba is an ancient word used by the island’s original inhabitants, the Taino, to describe the rolled leaves of tobacco they smoked, as Columbus observed in 1492. Thus Cohiba is the first word for a cigar known.
The leaves used for the production of these cigars are selected from the harvests of the five best plantations in the tobacco growing region of San Juan y Martínez and San Luis, in the Vuelta Abajo area of the western province of Pinar del Río.
The Cohiba is the only brand of cigar for which three of the four types of leaves used – dry, light, and half time – are additionally fermented in barrels. This special process provides an aroma and taste that can only be found in these cigars, plus all are composed of long filler and are completely hand-rolled.
The Habanos, S.A. company is a world leader in sales of premium, hand-rolled cigars, both in Cuba and internationally, via an exclusive distribution network operating on five continents and in more than 150 countries.
The company distributes a total of 27 premium brands certified with a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) seal, including – in addition to Cohiba – Montecristo, Partagás, Romeo y Julieta, Hoyo de Monterrey, and H. Upmann.
