Beijing, Nov 5 (Prensa Latina) Chinese figures predicted on Tuesday that the international community will in its majority condemn the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for more than half a century, later this week.
Academic Xu Shicheng, an expert in Latin American Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told Prensa Latina that since 1992, the members of the United Nations General Assembly have always supported Cuba’s resolutions to end that coercive policy.
‘That shows that Cuba has friends all over the world, while the United States has become increasingly isolated. I believe that Cuba will win,’ Xu stressed, adding that Washington is supported by just one or two nations, including Israel.
The academic also rejected the White House’s recent measures to tighten the blockade, including the suspension of flights to Cuban destinations.
For his part, former Ambassador Zhang Tuo denounced the damages caused by the blockade to the Cuban people and economy, as well as its permanence despite international condemnation.
He referred to the majority support for Cuba expressed for 27 consecutive years at the UN.
‘The peoples of the world do not want the blockade, they want peaceful coexistence for all,’ Zhang told Prensa Latina.
The former diplomat called for an immediate end to the hostile policy, and noted that this is a demand shared by the Cuban people and the peoples of the world.
This week, the UN General Assembly will vote on a draft resolution presented by Cuba that demands, for the 28th consecutive year, the lifting of the US blockade, the most unjust, severe and lengthy system of unilateral sanctions ever enforced against a country.
Washington’s blockade is the main obstacle to Cuba’s development and economic relations with the rest of the world.
