Caribbean Festival to Celebrate 500 Years of Santiago de Cuba

Santiago de Cuba, June 13.- The 35th International Festival of the Caribbean, based here from July 3 to 9, will be one of the main celebrations for the half millennium (500 years) of the founding of the city, organizers said today.

Almost point are the preparations for the event, which takes place continuously since 1984 and has become a meeting point of cultures and future of the Caribbean people, both insular and the continental Latin American nations bathed by the sea.

The participation of over a thousand foreign participants is confirmed, from thirty countries of the Caribbean, Latin America and Europe, Turkey and representation of scholars and carrier groups of traditional folk culture of Cuba.

One of the most significant moments of the event will be the creation of the Network of Caribbean Carnival, an initiative sponsored by the Association of Caribbean States in pursuit of praise that musical expression and dance company deeply rooted among the people of the region.

Another important day will be the delivery of the Casa del Caribe International Awards Cuban poet Waldo Leyva, a founder of the match at Junkanoo, native music and dance manifestation of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, whose culture this year will be devoted. The Caribbean that unites us is the fundamental theoretical space, which is Workshop will add the popular religion, the gathering of young creators new Souls, parades snake and fire, Haitian and West Indian festivals, a tribute to the slave rebellion and the ode to Yemaya.
