Havana, May 24 (Prensa Latina) Cardiovascular health and its link with diabetes, insulin resistance and nutrition are among topics under discussion at the International Congress on this endocrine disease, which concludes in Havana on Friday.

Hyperglycemia and cardiovascular risk is one of the health issues being discussed in the symposium ‘Heart and autonomic nervous system,’ as well as the safety of that organ in the presence of new anti-hyperglycemic agents.

Diabetes, a disease that affects 422 million people around the world and considered the 7th leading cause of death by 2030, presents as risk factors sedentary lifestyle, obesity, family history, high blood pressure and dyslipidemias.

On prevention, Mexican specialist Paula Reyes spoke about contributions of physical activity to control the disease.

Opened on Wednesday, the congress brings together some 400 specialists from Latin America, Europe, Asia and the United States.
