Book on Raul Castro to hit Havana stands today

libro_raul_castroHAVANA, Cuba, Jul 16 (acn) The book ¨Raúl Castro, un hombre en Revolución, ¨ by Russian writer Nikolai Leonov, will be available in bookstores in the capital from today.

The price is 30 Cuban pesos (1.25 USD) , and in the rest of the country will be sold in the following days, on a date to be informed promptly.

The work was presented for the first time in Cuba on Wednesday, before the deputies to the National Assembly of People’s Power, and is the first Spanish language edition published by Capitan San Luis Publishing House.

Nikolai Sergeyevich Leonov (Almazovo, Russia, 1928) is a retired Lieutenant General, Doctor in Historical Sciences and professor of the department of Diplomatic Work of Moscow State Institute of International Relations, and has eight published books.

Owner of a vast history as Soviet intelligence officer and more than enough academic merits, he also has to his credit a biographical essay on commander in Chief Fidel Castro, Granma newspaper said.

According to the newspaper, “the book should be read as the biography of a fate and the testimony of friendship; the first is evident in the series of events talking about the genesis, development and updating of the revolutionary process and the participation of Raul in the emancipating deed, socialism construction, the foundation of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the leadership of the Party and the State in recent years, all designed with analytical precision; and the second one from empathy born between Leonov and Raul when coinciding in 1953 on a transatlantic voyage from Europe to the Caribbean. ”

Last June, the work was presented at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, where the Chancellor of that country, Sergei Lavrov, welcomed the original edition in Russian language, and then it reached the parliamentarians in the State Duma, to which Nikolai belonged between 2003 and 2007, as reflected in the cover.
