Bolivian Press Highlights Criticism of US Restrictions against Cuba

La Paz, Jun 10 (Prensa Latina) The Bolivian newspaper Cambio has Monday highlighted in its printed edition all criticisms of US measures against Cuba, and also how these hinder the relation progress between both nations.

The newspaper referred to the decision made by the US President Donald Trump administration to impose new restrictions on US citizens to travel to Cuba.

When citing information from Prensa Latina, Cambio journal pointed out that Trump´s administration -determined to pay only attention to a small group of Cuban-American lawmakers and hard-line officials, turned his back again on numerous voices demanding the freedom to travel to Cuba with no restrictions.

US people are banned from travelling to Cuba as tourists, and currently they can only travel there under 12 categories, including family visits, support for the people, and journalistic, religious or educational activities.

As part of this process reversal to normalize two-way relations, in November 2017 the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) changed the general license for people-to-people educational activities and eliminated the authorization of individual trips.

The new US restrictions were immediately backlashed by the US Congress members, business groups, local authorities and organizations favorable to the normalization of relations between the two countries.
