Blockade Affects Equipment at the Pediatric Hospital in Camagüey

atencion-especializada-pediatria1Camagüey, Oct 27.- The economic blockade affects the technological equipment of the “Eduardo Agramonte Piña” Pediatric Hospital and the development of its 32 medical specialties.

In spite of the recrudescence of this policy, the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) shows a very low mortality rate due to the proper management of the seriously ill patients, and the high level of expertise of doctors.

The surgery rooms face difficulties in the anesthesia machines functioning, operating tables, artificial respiration apparatus, and electro surgery modules due to the lack of spare parts for their maintenance.

The hospital lacks important anesthetics that are made in US pharmaceutical companies, such as sevoflurane, which is very useful for children general anesthetic due to its protecting qualities against heart attack, ischemia, and arrhythmia during the patient´s surgery.

The pediatric hospital, founded more than 45 years ago, has 302 beds. Patient´s from Camagüey, Ciego de Ávila, Las Tunas and other eastern provinces are treated in this Public Health unit with excellent results.(Radio Cadena Agramonte)
