Pretoria, Nov 30 (Prensa Latina) The African National Congress (ANC) will pay tribute today to the Cuban Revolution leader, Fidel Castro in the South African provinces of Western Cape and Gauteng.
In the ceremony organized in Cape City (Western Cape) the ANC Vice president, Cyril Ramaphosa will speak, who is also the country’s vice president, while in Johannesburg the main speaker will be the secretary general of the organization, Gwede Mantashe.
‘Comrade Fidel Castro was one of the greatest revolutionaries of our times’, expressed a statement of the party when defining the Cuban leader as a close friend and ally of the ANC and the people of South Africa.
Infinite signs of love and respect have taken place in the African nation since the sad news was known. The Cuban embassy in Pretoria opened the book of condolences on Monday, which has so far hundreds of people signed.
President Jacob Zuma joined the dignitaries of other nations who participated last night at the funeral in Havana.
In his speech in the Cuban capital, Zuma stated that ‘Commander in Chief Fidel Castro attracted many enemies and survived hundreds of attacks against his life because of his strong stance against imperialism.’
We must strive to carry forward the ideals he embraced: the ideals of internationalism, freedom, equality, justice and a better and more just world, he added.
