Algerian Oscar-nominated Film Screened in Cuba

Havana, Feb 9 (Prensa Latina) Algerian filmmaker Yasmine Chouikh is presenting in Havana Saturday the film Until the End of Time, nominated for an Oscar 2019 in the category of Best Foreign Language Film.

The presentation is part of the International Book Fair´s joint activities, which runs in Havana until February 17 and is dedicated in its 28th edition to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.

The Multicine Infanta will feature the film about a sixty-year old woman preparing for her own funeral and burial, which leads her to establish a loving relationship with the burial man at the Sidi Boulekbour cemetery.

According to the film’s synopsis, the plot takes place during the Ziara, a pilgrimage that leads the living to visit their deceased, and in such a context Joher visits his sister’s grave and begins with the idea of being buried next to her. For his part, the gravedigger Ali, originally surprised by such a request, agrees to help the old woman with a certain skepticism.

Until the end of time, winner of the Alhambra de Plata award at the Granada International Film Festival, Spain ‘Cines Del Sur’ in 2018, is Chouikh’s first feature film.

The film won an award at the International Mediterranean Film Festival in Annaba, winning the Grand Prize and the Prize for Best Female Actress. The film has added three more awards to its record, the ‘Golden Khindjar’ Grand Prize, the Muscat International Film Festival, as well as Critics’ Awards and the Best Male Performance Award.

The film was produced by MakingOf Prod and made its debut at the Dubai Film Festival.
